‘I’m mom slash playmate’: Parents of only children are making it through the pandemic with creativity and endurance

When Elle Davis unboxed an egg chair for her back porch, she didn’t know her 8-year-old daughter, Simone, would find another use for the huge box. Immediately after the cardboard rectangle became vacant, Simone gathered all her creative supplies — scissors, tape, a hot glue gun and markers — to transform the shell into her personal box fort.
“She has slept in it in her play room,” laughed Davis, “and she has taken it back outside and has been watching her tablet in it as like her little protection.”
